WELD INSPECTION

GEKKO FOR WELD INSPECTION

 

With multiple skip weld overlay and 64 elements, GEKKO can inspect from very thin to very thick samples while maintaining superior resolution and greater SNR. With up to 2 048 delay laws and 8 groups, GEKKO can combine TOFD and PA in a single pass to achieve significant reduction in inspection time.

SMALL DIAMETER PIPE INSPECTION

GEKKO for PIPES INSPECTION

 

In this case, a cylindrical reconstruction is being done for small diameter pipe inspection using sizing with corner effect mode (TTT) for better defect sizing. Both TFM technique and sectorial scan are illustrated.
For outside diameter defects, both modes account for the rebound off the inner curved-surface to display a scaled image.

NOZZLE INSPECTION

Uniquely compatible with up to 3-axis commercial scanners and with the possibility to define nozzle on-board, GEKKO is to be used for encoded nozzle inspections. The true-distance mapping of indications helps locating and sizing indications.

FIELD INSPECTION OF A NOZZLE

GEKKO FOR FIELD INSPECTION OF A NOZZLE

 

The Gekko offers the possibility to define on-board a nozzle component by simply entering the characteristics of the vessel and the nozzle (thickness, radius, angles).

Scan plans can be defined on the equipment to describe the motion of the transducer around the nozzle for either an encoded inspection with a scanner (using up to three axis: rotation, translation and skew) or a manual one.

BLADE INSPECTION WITH HALF-SKIP TFM

GEKKO FOR BLADE INSPECTION WITH HALF-SKIP TFM

TFM and superimposition of a CAD file to ease the inspection diagnostic. The inspection has been carried using a 5 MHz probe of 64 elements, a pitch of 0.6mm and a wedge of 55° shear waves.

FRICTION STEEL WELD (FSW) INSPECTION USING TFM

GEKKO FOR FRICTION STEEL WELD (FSW) INSPECTION USING TFM

 

A T-joint is welded using a FSW process. The sample contains a 0.2 mm side-drilled located between the two welds for calibration and a 3-mm high, 1-mm long EDM notch.

We use a 10-MHz array from flange opposite web and compare a linear scanning using an aperture of 8 elements focused along the backwall (on the left) to a TFM inspection (on the right). For both cases we set the gain to have a 80% screen height for the side-drilled hole and we superimpose a dxf overlay of the component in the Gekko (white lines in the following images).
